Tomcat FAM Block VIII

Gentlemen… it’s time to take it up a level. Monday’s hop will be about ACM… Air Combat Maneuvering. Dogfighting. We’ll teach you to fly the F-14 like you’ve never flown before. This FAM Block is about combat. There are no points for second place. Remember, when it’s over out there, we’re all on the same team.

The F-14 served as the U.S. Navy’s primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor, and tactical aerial reconnaissance platform well into the 2000s. The Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) pod system added in the 1990s extended the Tomcat’s capability to perform precision ground-attack missions.

As a Tomcat pilot, you will be trained to operate the F-14 from the deck of a U.S. Navy supercarrier in support of the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) mission to project U.S. military power and ensure freedom of navigation and maritime security.

Throughout the course of your training, you’ll learn how the F-14 handles in high and low speed configurations, how to employ the weapons systems, how to use Jester AI, how to refuel in-flight, how to handle an in-flight emergency, and most importantly, how to “trap”… recovery on the aircraft carrier.  You’ll also be introduced to similar and dissimilar dogfighting, as well as CASE III recoveries.

At the conclusion of primary flight training, an optional RIO supplement will be available for those seeking to fly in the backseat in a multi-crewed aircraft.
