U.N.Fortunate Events: Part II

Last week FDS was assigned a short notice contract to provide airborne over watch for a convoy moving through northern Iran. Extremist militia in the region hit the convoy with an IED, and FDS pulled the plug on the convoy, extracting key personnel and leaving TALON teams in place to protect the remaining assets. Moments after FDS aircraft recovered to the Invictus, Operations received broken distress signals from TALON, and then lost radio contact…

SITREP
U.N.Fortunate Events: Part II

*Note: the following mission predates the developments in the recent “Blue Falcons” mission series…

After our U.N. Convoy was hit by a complex IED attack, On-Scene Commander (OSC) Rico wisely decided to get the U.N. humanitarian personnel evac’d, and ordered FDS aircraft to collect as many of the U.N. Convoy assets as possible to avoid letting the supplies fall into the hands of the extremist militia responsible for the attack. While FDS aircraft were attempting to recover the final load of cargo, a U.N. Huey struck power lines and crashed just east of the disabled convoy. FDS’ contract stipulated the safe delivery or recovery of all personnel and assets, so to safeguard the left over items OSC ordered the insertion of 20 TALON personnel to hold the crash site secure until a full extraction could be mounted. At the time, the militia threat appeared to be totally neutralized, so OPS approved this course of action and ordered all FDS aircraft back to the Invictus.

Moments after the last bird recovered, we received broken messages from TALON, that sounded like a distress call of some sort. TALON has since gone totally radio silent… We’ve all been in the business long enough to know this is a bad sign, so OPS is ordering all aircraft back into the air. Get overhead and asses TALON’s situation, and support, reinforce or extract our assets as necessary.
